The team at Mountford Estate Vineyard & Winery (in the Waipara Valley) are excited to support the 50º South Trust and their Campbell Island Bicentennial Expedition later this year.
To think our beautiful wines will travel to New Zealand’s southernmost (Sub-antarctic) island, is quite something. This is a different form of sponsorship for Mountford but one we are enthusiastic about and proud to be involved in. We are people from the land and environmentally focused; to have an opportunity to be involved in this project in a practical way is just marvellous.
All of our team here at Mountford are really interested in the work that will be carried out on the Island and the fact that this island is now pest free is incredible – a wonderful gift for future generations of New Zealanders and scientists.
The research to be undertaken on the Island and years following could lead to all sorts of discoveries and we are thrilled to be part of that in a small way.
As our business is making wine, well – that is the way we can help. After all when the expedition team complete a day’s work they will more than deserve the opportunity to enjoy a glass or two of a good wine! They won’t be enjoying a summer like the rest of us on the mainland – it will be a wild and rugged time down there, it will be difficult work at times, exhilarating but challenging – so we are delighted and honoured that our wines will be with them!
We hope a glass of our beautiful Mountford Pinot Noir, Chardonnay or Riesling will help the team on Campbell Island end each day on a positive note as they collate their achievements.
If you would be keen to help in some way too or you would like to follow the progress of the Bicentennial (that’s the 200th anniversary) Expedition to Campbell Island check out http://www.50south.org.nz
Remember they need all the help they can get – this is strictly funded by donations (which can be made online) and in-kind support, and they still need to meet their financial target to make this happen. So like us, see if you can help and do tell others about it too – thanks.
